Emlyn Stam is active as a chamber musician, soloist and orchestral musician in the Netherlands and throughout Europe. For two seasons he has been assistant principal violist of the Residentie Orkest in the Hague under Neeme Järvi and recently made his Dutch radio debut on the program ‘Young Talent on Radio 4’. Emlyn has appeared as a soloist with the Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra and the Schönberg Ensemble. Further appearances have included performances at the Kuhmo Festival in Finland as well as guest performances with the Parkanyi Quartet in the Concertgebouw.
Emlyn finished his Bachelor’s degree in June 2006 and his Master’s in September 2008 at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague having studied with Ferdinand Erblich and Vladimir Mendelssohn. Further studies have included masterclasses with Steven Dann, Rennie Regehr, Roberto Diaz, Tabea Zimmerman, Kim Kashkashian and Gerald Stanick.
After receiving a scholarship to study at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre Young Artist’s Program, Emlyn was given the opportunity to study solo playing and chamber music with Pinchas Zukerman, Patinka Kopec and Michael Tree. He was also chosen by Seiji Ozawa to participate in his summer music festival in Blonay, Switzerland where he studied chamber music with Pamela Frank, Nobuko Imai and Sadaho Harrado. Emlyn Stam is a founding member of the New European Ensemble and the Ysaye Trio.
