Theatre branoul the hague
Every month, the New European Ensemble brings to you a new mix of literature, poetry and music in Salon Branoul
In Röntgenfotomodel, a body is held against the light.
van beddengoed vouw ik een vrouw
en noem haar tegenwicht
's avonds lig ik in haar armen
maar ze vindt het niks
omdat ik boos ben
naai ik haar mond dicht
In gripping sentences, Vicky Francken writes about the sensory experience as well as the abstract thinking that goes with it. Sometimes the body is an anchor, other times it is in the way, but it is always an instrument from which we can read a lot. 'The poet has a great language sensitivity, she does not shy away from the experiment and shows herself as vulnerable in a musical and often light-footed manner,' according to the Buddinghprijs jury in 2017. Her poetry is combined with introverted music by Arvo Pärt and Lera Auerbach alongside music composed by Sjostakovitsj and Schnittke. Vicky Franken won the C. Buddingh prize with Röntgenfotomodel in 2017.
'It may be clear: Röntgenfotomodel is a surprising debut. Francken shows the power of vulnerability, and does so in groping, but accurate verses.'

Branoul Theatre in The Hague is a small venue like you can find them in Berlin and Paris. In one of the most beautiful parts of The Hague you can enjoy intimate performances. With only place for 80 people, directly in front of the stage, you can almost smell the actors and musicians.
New European Ensemble is supported by Fonds Podiumkunsten (from 2017) and the city of The Hague
