claude debussy (1862-1918)

In 2018 is it a hundred years ago since the French composer Claude Debussy died. The pieces you will hear tonight are by Debussy himself, and by three composers who were influenced by his music. Special attention is given to the flute this evening. Debussy is famous for inventing new sounds in his music. Before he came to his new inventions he was still far more influenced by impressionism and barok, and that is very noticeable in his earlier works such as the sonata for flute and his Arabesques.

Claude Debussy - Deux arabesques (bew. Henk Alkema)

Mikel Urquiza - Les lueurs se sont multipliées

Tristan Murail - Garrigue

Claude Debussy - Sonata for flute, viola and harp

Kaija Saariaho - Terrestre

Claude Debussy - Six épigraphes antiques (bew. Karl Lenski)
