about the programme

tivoli-vredenburg Utrecht

The New European Ensemble performs in one of the Netherland’s most prominent festivals for new music: the Gaudeamus Muziekweek. Each year dozens of composers from around the globe submit brand new works to compete for the Gaudeamus Award. NEuE will perform two of the pieces that were selected by the jury.

Also on the programme: Zingiber by the Italian composer Carlo Boccadoro, who excells in groovy minimal music, and two works by young composers that were commissioned by the ensemble. In his Cing Pièges Brefs Mikel Urquiza from Spain demonstrates that an artist can deceive his audience by designing his art as an eloborate trap. The Dutch composer Ronald Boersen who lives and works in Israel, embodies in sound the impressions that photos can evoke. The timbres of the instruments merge seamlessly with the electronic soundscape.

New European Ensemble is supported by Fonds Podiumkunsten (from 2017) and the city of The Hague
