Song recital - White Crow Music Festival Leiden

Carina Vinke will together with pianist Stefan Petrovic sing Tranströmersånger by Benjamin Staern and a selection of songs by Jean Sibelius. The song cycle by Staern was originally commissioned by the New European Ensemble for Carina Vinke in 2009 and received it's world première the same year in Den Haag. For the first time in the Netherlands we'll will hear the new complete extended version of the work. The programme will also feature the Blok Songs by Dimitry Shostakovich.

Firestarter - White Crow Music Festival Leiden

New European Ensemble will perform Arnold Schönberg's rock-n-roll piece "Ode for Napoleon Bonaparte" with text by Lord Byron together with the great Scottish singer Alexander Oliver. A real rarity the piano quartet version of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony will finish of the programme. The programme is also to contain Haydn's Emperor Quartet Op. 76:3 performed by the Idomeneo Quartet.

Das Lied von der Erde - White Crow Music Festival Leiden - Closing concert

For the closing concert of White Crow Music Festival 2010, New European Ensembe will give the Dutch première of the grand old man of Dutch music life, Reinbert de Leeuw's new chamber version of Das Lied von der Erde by Gustav Mahler. The programme will also feature Tristan Keuris rarely performed masterpiece L'Infinito for five voices and large ensemble set to three poems by the Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi. The programme opens with Richard Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, performed in it's original version with solo strings.
